How to Belly Roll

This infographic depicts one of the most fundamental moves of belly dancing: the belly roll. The idea behind this project was to choose an activity to diagram so that anyone could learn from it.

I, along with two co-designers, researched and illustrated this simple yet complicated dance move.

We began by interviewing a professional belly dancer. After that, we documented and recorded one person with experience as they taught someone else the move. Lastly, we consulted books and web sources on this art.





Using this research, we came up with what we felt were the most important elements to communicate:

    1. The correct stance and posture.
    2. Which muscle groups to use.
    3. The proper breathing pattern.
Once all of these are completely understood, a viewer has the proper direction to attempt a full belly roll.
