The Society of Grownups

Society of Grownups was a startup created by IDEO and MassMutual in 2014. The mission was to democratize financial literacy by providing people easily accessible and affordable financial classes and expert Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) appointments for “grownups.”

My time at Society of Grownups began in March of 2015. I was brought in as a Brand Designer to maintain and grow the company’s brand. Responsibilities included setting strategic vision for the brand including curriculum, marketing and advertising campaigns, internal communications, events, social media, and across the physical space.

The company evolved, as start-ups do, and in 2017 Society of Grownups switched from physical classes and events to a completely digital learning initiative. I grew into the role of Lead Product Designer, working to develop the UX/UI of the B2C and B2B web platforms for Workplace Services clients and public facing customers. I also provided the art direction and illustration for the digital class experience.

These platforms became MassMutual’s altruistic and unbiased voice delivering digital, customer-centric, financial wellness experiences. The subscription and public sites were designed to open up the conversation around money and educate people on the basics of personal finance. The content included courses, digital tools, videos and articles from expert financial planners focused on helping users to discover what’s important and take action toward their goals.

Concurrently, I was a Product Designer on MassMutual's Digital Experience Design Team working to build better user experiences for plan sponsors, advisors, and customers. I designed solutions for professional financial products and services including retirement, investing and advisory.
